Angela Sanders Presents on HR for Small Nonprofits for the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations on April 26
On April 26, 2022, Angela H. Sanders presented, "HR for Small Nonprofits: Reasonable Accommodations & Workplace Investigations," to the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO).
The EEOC’s (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s) most well-known example of a reasonable accommodation is an employer providing a stool for a cashier who is unable to stand for a full work shift. Most employee accommodation requests, however, are far more complicated and often leave employers wondering “Is that reasonable?”.
This program:
- Provided an overview of an employer’s obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Pennsylvania Human Relations Act;
- Described the reasonable accommodation process and provide tools and guidance for employers to implement an effective disability accommodation procedure; and
- Provided practical tips and strategies for responding to difficult accommodation requests.
The last two years of our COVID reality have taught many, especially small nonprofits, the importance of being prepared to address reasonable accommodations, workplace investigations, or both with their staff. The second half of the program will focus on workplace investigations, including investigations into reports of discrimination and harassment, and other policy violations. The program also addressed best practices for conducting internal investigations, including required policies to support an investigation, the investigation process, investigation reports, and corrective action following an investigation.
