Paula G. Sanders and Cynthia A. Haines presented at the Pennsylvania Coalition of Affiliated Healthcare & Living Communities (PACAH) Virtual 2020 Fall Conference taking place from September 29 - October 8, 2020.

  • Ms. Sanders' webinar, "Challenges and Solutions for your Regulatory Pressure Points," took place on September 30, 2020 at 10:15 AM ET. Against a backdrop of a variety of confusing factors - including Phase 3 of the Requirements of Participation (RoPs) and the as of yet issued Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulatory guidance to facilities and state surveyors - Ms. Sanders provided tools and approaches that will make surviving more bearable. She examined enforcement trends and areas of focus and shared techniques for correcting potential problems before they mushroom into unbearable experiences. She also reviewed the new guidance for Phase 3 of the ROPs.
     
  • Ms. Haines presented, "HIPAA Hot Topics: Resident Right to Access," on October 7, 2020 at 2:15 PM ET. She reviewed how to avoid pitfalls that lead to scrutiny by OCR. OCR launched the new HIPAA Right of Access enforcement initiative which focuses on resident right to access by targeting organizations who were not responding to requests for records as requested. She also reviewed how to avoid incidents under increased scrutiny as mobile devices are increasingly in the workplace and emails and texting become the norm.
