Robert J. Balch Appointed Vice-Chair of Post & Schell's Casualty Litigation Department

Philadelphia, PA – January 12, 2023 – Post & Schell, P.C. today announced the appointment of Principal Robert J. Balch as Vice-Chair of the firm’s Casualty Litigation Department. He will work closely with and support Department Chair Daniel S. Altschuler in overseeing the legal services provided to the firm’s clients as well as the administration and management of the Department and its lawyers, paralegals, and staff members resident in our Allentown, Lancaster, Mt. Laurel, NJ, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh offices.

Post & Schell’s Casualty Litigation Department counsels and defends self-insured businesses, multi-line insurance carriers, and third-party administrators, in general liability and casualty claims. Totaling 49 attorneys in offices in Allentown, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, PA, and Mt. Laurel, NJ, the Department defends clients in the full gamut of general liability and casualty claims, including commercial transportation and trucking, construction defect and injury, liquor/dram shop liability, premises liability, products liability, and toxic tort.

Mr. Balch’s practice focuses on the defense of clients in matters involving complex issues and catastrophic injuries and damages. His representative clients include insurance companies, third-party administrators, international, national, and regional corporations, municipalities, elected officers, hotels, restaurants, and casinos. As Chair of the firm's Liquor Liability Practice Group, he has successfully defended bars, restaurants, casinos, fraternal organizations, colleges, clubs, and property owners from allegations of improper alcohol service, lax security, hazing, and criminal conduct by patrons, employees, and guests. 

Mr. Balch’s products liability practice includes the defense of national and international manufacturers and distributors sued for civil damages stemming from consumer products, medical devices, manufacturing equipment, and automobiles alleged to have been defective and caused an injury. He is a graduate of Rutgers University School of Law and holds a B.S. degree in Labor Industrial Relations from Pennsylvania State University.
