Workers' Comp. and Casualty Principals Present on Reducing the Cost of Claims in Pennsylvania to Dallas Risk Professionals on June 11

The continuing education (CE) seminar, "Reducing Cost of Workers' Compensation & Catastrophic Liability Claims in Pennsylvania," was co-sponsored by Post & Schell with the Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter of RIMS, the Risk Management Society, and took place June 11 at the Omni Mandalay at Las Colinas in Dallas, TX.

The half day seminar provided two learning tracks for attendees:

  • The Front Lines of Workers’ Compensation Law and Claims: An interactive panel discussion with Post & Schell Workers’ Compensation Chair Jonathan C. Ascher, Principal Patrice A. Toland, and Omni Hotels & Resorts' Corporate Risk Manager - Claims, Debbie Dorman, on the front lines in one of the most claimant oriented jurisdictions in the country – the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The presenter's offered a three-tiered analysis - pre-injury claim, management of the claim, and litigation/settlement.
  • Managing a Catastrophic Loss: From Accident Response Through Litigation: Through a review of a hypothetical accident case that resulted in a catastrophic loss, Casualty Litigation Chair Daniel S. Altschuler, Hospitality Co-Chair Charles W. Spitz, and Principal Robert J. Balch, provided an interactive examination of best practices in terms of investigations, and a comprehensive review of related legal principles under Pennsylvania law, including: premises liability, liability under the Pennsylvania Fair Share Act, and related coverage issues such as indemnification.

The seminar also included a roundtable discussion that included both Workers' Compensation and Casualty attorneys, as well as input from attendees on their experiences handling claims originating in Pennsylvania.
