Celestine Montague is a Principal in the firm's Insurance Law Department. She counsels and defends regional and large, multi-line insurance carriers in first- and third-party insurance coverage and bad faith matters. This includes crime; cyber, media, and technology; directors and officers (D&O), financial lines, and errors and omissions (E&O); professional liability; and commercial general liability. She has served as Coordinating Counsel for a national multi-line insurer, and provides guidance on preventing, handling, and defending extra-contractual claims in jurisdictions throughout the United States.
Ms. Montague has a broad range of experience in emerging issues in complex insurance coverage litigation, including claims involving sexual abuse and environmental liability. She manages complex, multimillion-dollar cases through all stages of litigation, from pre-trial strategy through post-trial relief. She represents insurance companies in state and federal courts nationwide, as well as in various alternative dispute resolution forums, including private arbitrations and mediations.
In addition, Ms. Montague represents commercial liability insurers in claims for insurance coverage and addresses defense and settlement issues associated with the underlying disputes, including those involving contracts, investments, intellectual property, labor and employment, professional errors and omissions, and personal injury.
A frequent speaker and writer on the issues and challenges facing the insurance industry, Ms. Montague has presented and written on topics such as environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) liability and its impact on D&O coverage, primary and excess insurers’ duties and exposure to bad faith claims, and defense and settlement issues associated with underlying disputes involving sexual abuse, environmental liability, and financial lines risks.
